Gujarat Titans ‘start’ with victory: Defeat Lucknow by 5 wickets in team debut match, 60-run match-winning partnership between Tevatia-Miller

Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 5 wickets in the IPL-15 match played on Monday. Batting first after losing the toss, LSG scored 158 for 6 in 20 overs. Gujarat team chased it in 19.4 overs and won the match. Meanwhile, GT’s better Rahul Tewatia and David Miller had a 60-run match-winning partnership of 34 balls.

Strong catch out on Krunal’s bowling

The Gujarat Titans got a target of 159 runs to win. Hardik and Matthew Wade formed a 57-run partnership after losing 2 wickets in 15 overs. But Lucknow all-rounder Krunal Pandya dismissed his brother and Gujarat captain, Hardik Pandya.

Hardik went for a lofted shot on the first ball of Krunal’s over. Lucknow’s Manish Pandey caught him as his timing was not special. Hardik’s wicket was taken by his own brother Krunal.

A great partnership between Hooda and AYUSH of LSG

Gujarat took 4 wickets for 29 runs, Deepak Hooda and Ayush took the innings of Lucknow. Meanwhile, he shared a partnership of 87 off 68 balls for the fifth wicket. However, Hooda was later dismissed for 55. While AYUSH also scored fifty and scored 54 runs. As a result of both the brilliant innings, the Lucknow team was able to score 158 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

A repeat of Kapil Dev’s vintage catch

Gill caught Evin Lewis (10) off the third ball of the fourth over of Lucknow’s innings.

Gil caught the run with a long run while fielding on a fine leg.

Gill’s catch is reminded of Indian captain Kapil Dev’s catch in the 1983 World Cup.

Kapil made a superb catch to Sir Vivian Richards as he ran towards the boundary line.

Rahul’s weird record

KL Rahul was dismissed for 0 for the second time in the IPL. Earlier in 2016, Rahul was dismissed for zero by Dhawal Kulkarni against Gujarat Lions, and in this match, he returned to the pavilion for 0 off the ball of Mohammad Shami. What was special about this was that he got out both times on Golden Duck and against Gujarat. Moreover, Rahul has become the second captain of the IPL to be dismissed for zero off the first ball. Before Rahul, Brendon McCullum was out on the Golden Duck in 2009 against RCB.

Gujarat’s roar in the powerplay

Hardik Pandya decided to bowl before winning the toss. After that, all the responsibility was taken over by the experienced pacer of Gujarat Mohammad Shami. He gave the team a strong start by dismissing the Lucknow captain on the first ball of the first over. After that, Lucknow lost 4 wickets in 29 runs. Titan’s Shami took 3 wickets for 10 runs in the first 3 overs, while Varun took 1 wicket.

Interesting information

Golden Duck’s record – KL Rahul was dismissed for a second time in the IPL without a single run. Earlier in 2016, Rahul was dismissed for zero by Dhawal Kulkarni against Gujarat Lions, and in this match, he collected 0 runs off the ball of Mohammad Shamin. What is unique is that both times he was out on Golden Duck and against Gujarat.

For the first time in 11 years – Matthew Wade is playing an IPL match for the first time in 11 years. In IPL 2011, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for Rs 1 lakh, but he got a chance to make his debut today.

Crucial points of the match

Hardik became the boss of the toss

On the pitch at Wankhede Stadium, Gujarat captain Hardik chose to bowl before winning the toss. In the first match of the season in Teva, Kolkata’s Umesh Yadav dismissed both Chennai openers. As a result, now Mohammad Shami also made a defense in the match by dismissing Lucknow captain Rahul and Better Decock. In that, the Gujarat team has won the toss.

Hardik asked personal questions, including the captaincy

A day before the match, Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya called KL Rahul. The two also had a lively discussion, a video of which was shared by Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, the two players asked each other to tell each other about themselves, to which Rahul rather answered, “Hardik, you are my brother, but tell me what you think of me.” In it, Hardik said brother-brother in Gujju style.

Rahul told Hardik, don’t copy me

In the phone call between Hardik and Rahul, the answers were mostly the same. In that, Rahul used to say, “Hardik, don’t copy my reply.” Regarding Hardik’s captaincy, Rahul further said, “I am very excited to see you as a captain on the field. However, Pandya jokingly said Rahul, I can’t tell you what kind of captain you are in the recording right now.

Both said to the captain, I will see you in the field

Hardik also jokingly told Rahul that his team and mine will perform better than yours this season. However, in response to this, Rahul also jokingly said that we will come to the field and see whose performance remains.
